Dreams are 4 Suckers!

Unless you have the talent to actually pull it off. Here are 4 steps to finding out whether or not you have the chops to pursue your dreams.

Step 1, Talent. Do you truly have the talent to pursue the dream that you are going after. Most people think they have what it takes to pursue their dreams, but rarely take the time to check to see if anyone is confirming these beliefs. Someone other than your Mom, Dad or Spouse.

Step 2, Packaging/Presentation. This is the day and age of social media, and in this modern day world, your online presence says a lot about your brand. Idc how good your home made BBQ sauce is, if the packaging is ugly then I am not going to try it, respectfully. How good are you at curating your looks for your social media pages? Is it a complete mess? Is it in-line with your brand? Is your messaging clear? These are all the things you have to consider if you want to present yourself, product or service in the best way possible.

Step 3, Likability! This one is huge for me. Especially if you are building a personal brand. Like say a Musician or a Painter. I can't tell you how many times I have heard the words, "I think I want to become an artist". It is usually said by someone who does not even like people, and or barely anyone likes them. This market today it is like a popularity contest. Oh yes, it's the high school cafeteria all over again. Are you one of the cool kids? Or maybe even one of those chameleon kids who can float from table to table because you get along with mostly everyone. If not then how are you going to garner support for your brand? Especially if you are the face and name of the brand. Do you turn heads when you walk into a room? Do people gravitate towards you and want to be your friend? if not then you may want to reconsider continuing down this path.

Step 4, Self awareness. This is the most important step. I am in no way trying to be cynical or rain on your parade. Just giving you some tough love. Go through steps 1-3 and take a hard look at yourself, brand, product or service. Do they check off the boxes on this list? If so, then by all means go for it! If not, then save yourself years of struggle, money, resources and grief. Do yourself, family, loved ones and friends a favor, and quit while you are ahead.

Dreams are for suckers, but only for those who are delusional enough to think that everyone with a dollar and a dream can make it in the world of business and entertainment. Having a realistic world view will be your bestfriend. If you have the actual Talent, Packaging, Likability factor, mixed with a vision for your career/brand, some hustle, hard work and perseverance, then you might just be able to make those dreams come true!
